Interpretation and context
The energy of this song is captivating. You can just imagine three cool sunny summers, in which life beats like a pulse in your temple during a sprint. And the protagonist, who is strangled by the current relationship (“Tvoja priča mi udavi” - literally “your story is strangling me”). His beloved has beliefs (“čuvari” - lit. guards) that protect her from feelings (“želja” - lit. “desires”) and create this self-deception (“ubleha”) in her head, which the hero himself is already beginning to believe in. But it is by fencing herself off that the girl grows even more attached (“još više me zavolješe”, according to the text “čuvari” do this, but they are part of the girl and it is due to them that she becomes more attached). And it is unclear whether at first he asks the girl for a couple of years (like seasons) together, talks about the past years and wants to repeat them, or impersonally appeals to fate, in the context of “give me a couple more sunny years.”
I read the second verse as a portrayal of the protagonist's boundless openness (“preko mora lijeva i desna od duše i od srca”) and the contrast with the tightness of the “bed” (as an image of shared space) for his beloved. It’s so tight that she pushes him out of there. It is curious that in the first stanza the main character experienced a similar feeling (“tvoja priča mi udavi”). It looks like it’s really cramped for both of them, just to each in their own way: the hero is forced to squeeze himself into the limits of her world, and she feels overwhelmed by his openness, the need for love, directed at her. And it’s as if both find themselves squeezed by the same story, but from different sides.
Therefore, the hero feels the growing sense of helplessness... But he decides to sublimate this feeling differently - through a song. And finally, his ode to love emerges...
And here I like the number of meanings that can be read into this belief of his: both a literal understanding (without love we would not have been born), and they would not have had a relationship, and this song would not have seen the light of day.
To me this interpretation sounds uplifting and I think it goes well with the music. Yes, the girl cannot fit the relationship with the hero into her life, but he believes in love and continues to address her affectionately. As if there is sadness, maybe a slight resentment, but not suffering for this girl. It's as if the hero is emotionally self-sufficient.
